About Me
David Anderson was born with a desire to design landscapes. At the age of 8, he asked if he could turn his play yard into a landscaped garden. After designing & building the modest garden he entered the garden into an annual garden contest Sunset Magazine held. He won for his age class, won a $20 prize, took it to the local nursery & spent it on more plants. He then entered a simple greenhouse his Father built into Sunset Magazine's contest 2 years later at age 10, he won again. A few years later, in High School, he collected & raised over 120 varieties of orchids in that greenhouse. That original play yard was then re-designed and landscaped several times to satisfy each new landscape style he studied including a Japanese Garden complete with koi pond & waterfall.
Later, he started his professional landscaping career from the ground up, as an 'installer' at age 20. He gained valuable experience through installing everything from irrigation to plants to lighting, installing designs drawn by a team of architects and designers, seeing their visions come to life while attending college getting his own degree.
He worked at various nurseries, gained his C27 landscape contractors license, operated his own design/build firm, and then a landscape design firm. David then worked designing for a design/build firm that installed all aspects of landscaping including swimming pools & spas. This was a great experience since he had not had a chance to design swimming pool retreats before.
Recently, David wanted to re-invent landscape design to make it more affordable and accessible to the average homeowner. Landscape Designs Online was born out of a desire to reach a larger audience and make affordable, professional landscape design a reality for homeowners across the nation. Landscape design is truly a passion for David and he hopes he can serve more people and help to bring their dreams for their outdoor spaces to reality by utilizing his computer & the internet. People can choose to install on their own or hire a professional installer for just part or all of the project.
David also has won several awards for his acrylic & oil paintings, another passion for him. One of his most memorable accomplishments though is spending an afternoon painting with the famous artist, Thomas Kinkade at The Huntington Gardens in Pasadena. "It was a once in a lifetime experience".
